BikeRail Storage Solutions had the privilege of participating in a remarkable project: the bike rental service in the brand-new Velodrome in Heusden-Zolder. This project, partly driven by former cyclist Marc Wauters, is an exciting addition to the sports landscape of the region and Flanders.
In addition to the impressive 250-meter-long cycling track, the complex also features other facilities, including four sports courts in the central area, a large gym hall, a medical center, fitness spaces, a performance lab, and a brasserie with a terrace.
The construction of the cycling track required meticulous craftsmanship, with a focus on precision down to the finest detail of each wooden plank. Safety is a top priority, with a transparent plexiglass wall along the upper part of the track. Ambitions are high: the Velodrome aims to become one of the fastest tracks in the world, suitable for setting records and hosting European and World Championships, as well as youth competitions and training sessions.
he complex, officially known as “Sport Vlaanderen Heusden-Zolder – Velodrome Limburg”, is more than just a velodrome. Covering an area of over 15,000 m², it has been developed as a multifunctional sports complex in collaboration with Sport Vlaanderen, Circuit Zolder, and the municipality of Heusden-Zolder. In addition to the track, the central area houses an ultra-modern sports hall, while underground, a large gymnasium has been built for gymnastics clubs and other sports associations. Further facilities include fitness spaces, a performance lab, and a brasserie with a terrace.
The complex also includes a modern medical center, which will be used by both the motor racing circuit and the local community. A bike repair workshop has been incorporated to provide training for bicycle mechanics.
Outside, space has been created for a parking lot, an extensive bike storage area, and green spaces, while the entire complex will be open to the public and local sports clubs.
This ambitious project promises not only to revolutionize track cycling but also to make a significant contribution to sports infrastructure and community life in Heusden-Zolder and its surroundings. With its diverse facilities and public accessibility, the Velodrome will play a central role in promoting an active lifestyle and supporting the local sports community.
The UCI-approved track is not just for top athletes but for anyone with a keen interest in track cycling. Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy riding laps on the oval. Don’t have your own track bike but still want to experience the thrill of riding on the track? No problem! 100 Ridley track bikes are available for rental. Just remember to bring your own pedals, as these are not provided.
BikeRail Storage Solutions had the opportunity to equip the rental service with the SpaceRail system. A big thank you to Ruben Clijsters for the trust and the opportunity given to us. The result of the installation, expertly carried out by the Velodrome itself, is truly impressive. 18 SpaceRails, covering a total of 22 linear meters, have been carefully installed to ensure that each bike remains easily accessible. This allows for an optimized rental process and efficient use of space.
